OREA PRESIDENT
The OREA President is the principal spokesperson of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association.  The President chairs the Board of Directors and is an ex-officio member of all committees with the exception of the Elections Committee.
(Bylaws, Article 5, 5.1 D)

Term of Office
A change in the Constitution adopted by OREA membership at the State Convention in May of 2009, allows the President to serve two consecutive two-year terms.  The President is elected by the House of Delegates at the State Convention in May.  Any member of both the local and the state organizations is eligible to run for the office of President.  The term of office begins on July 1 of the year of election.

NOTE:  The summary of the President’s obligations can be found in Article V of the Bylaws

OREA VICE PRESIDENT
The Vice-President performs the duties of the President in the event of the President’s absence.  (Bylaws, Article VI)

Term of Office
As with the President, the Vice President serves a two-year term and may be elected to an additional two-year term.  The election is held during the House of Delegates at the annual State Convention.  The Vice-President serves at the discretion of the President and the Board of Directors and may be assigned specify duties, ie., ex-officio on any committees; representing the Association at meetings, functions at the Capitol, etc.  (See Election of Officers, Bylaws,  Article IV)

DISTRICT DIRECTORS
District Directors are elected by their constituent districts to a three-year term and may serve a second term if elected by the district’s membership.  District Directors serve on the OREA Board as a representative of their specific district and report OREA activities to their members.  The District Director is OREA’s representative at Unit meetings and assists local Units with programs throughout the year. (See Article VIII, in the Bylaws.)

STANDING COMMITTEES
Government Relations, Finance, Elections, Membership, and Communications are Standing Committees.  The Chairs and Committee members are appointed by the President and approved by the Board.  Any member who is interested in serving the Association on any of these committees is welcome to notify the President or the Executive Director because OREA is always seeking members who want to become active participants at the state level.  At some point during the year, the Chairs of committee’s may be asked to make a report on Committee charges.

On occasion the President with the Board’s approval will recommend a special committee to address a current issue and the committee functions only until a recommendation or solution is forwarded to the Board to meet its request.

In addition to these Standing Committees, there are other Committees which are a part of the Association’s program of work.  The Benefits Committee, Community Service Committee, Constitution Committee, Convention Committee, OREA Fund Committee, and the VIM Committee are all an important part of OREA’s program and the Chairs and members are appointed by the President.  Any OREA member who wishes to serve on any of these committees should submit your name to your District Director, the President, or the Executive Director.  It is always a challenge to staff these important committees, and it would be very helpful if there was a bank of names for contacting when a vacancy occurs.
